At Fix Chiropractic, our practitioners are trained to identify muscular dysfunctions and integrate Dry Needling Therapy together with Chiropractic Manipulation techniques to provide a more effective approach in managing spine and joint-related conditions.
To understand how Dry Needling works, it is important to first understand myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) — a key feature of Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS).
Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a muscle condition that occurs when trigger points develop within muscles. These trigger points are commonly found as tight, taut, or hardened bands of muscle tissue, which can interfere with normal muscular function.
Trigger points may lead to both motor and sensory issues, such as:
Reduced range of motion (ROM)
Muscle tightness and stiffness
Tenderness or sensitivity in the affected area
Changes in muscle performance and movement patterns
Trigger points can be acute or chronic, and are generally classified into two types:
Active Trigger Points
These may cause pain without being touched, and can create local pain or referred pain (pain felt in another area). Active trigger points often contribute to:
Muscle weakness
Restricted movement
Pain with daily activities
Latent (Chronic) Trigger Points
Latent trigger points may not cause noticeable pain unless stimulated, but they can still create dysfunction. Over time, they may:
Affect normal muscle activation patterns
Contribute to stiffness and restricted ROM
Increase the likelihood of recurring muscle tightness
Dry Needling is used to target these trigger points directly, helping release muscle tension and restore healthier muscle function — especially when combined with chiropractic care for the spine and joints.
